Black Velvet Sonnet…

17 November 2011

The velvet is as bleak as it is black
Depressions on your bed side mark my mind
To Hades I would go to bring you back
To see you here I’d willingly go blind
But you are gone and I am all alone
Alone to face the churlish taunts of night
To suffer screeching silence on my own
And turn my tears into these words I write
I cannot close my eyes for I would see
The happiness I’ve lost for evermore
In our room now a gaol of misery
I pray that death soon knocks upon the door
Till then in emptiness I lie awake
Enthralled to cold black velvet and heartache

Tall Tales…

16 November 2011

Last summer I did make a trip
aboard my stellar sailing ship
and took a journey to a world from where our tall tales come
I visited a place so strange
a high greenhouse for those deranged
where people came most every day to sit in boxes glum

And in their box they’d talk alone
and to themselves they’d moan and groan
and rant and rave and pause and shout
although there was no one else about

Then after a full third of day
they’d somewhat sadly make their way
on to a sacrificial altar of a steel gigantic worm
And in the belly of this beast
that gorged more people in a feast
It crammed them tighter inside still until they all would squirm

It searched for prey with awful roar
and frequently it ate some more
though when it did some people could
escape its clutches feeling good

Then walking to another box
a smaller one of square red rocks
these crazy worm escapees went inside and looked relieved
After a while they shed their skin
like when somebody else came in
and caused each other’s suffering as you would not believe

He’d stab her with a pink flesh rod
in pain she’d curse his name “Oweghod!”
(I think that’s such a common name
as many females scream the same!)

Then when the sky turns dark and black
these people twinned lie on their backs
but thankfully there is no more of causing pain unkind
The male then sings a droning song
that lasts the bloody whole night long
It’s awful but the females mostly never seem to mind

And then the sun begins to shine
and everything again seems fine
They talk eating a thing called ‘slice’
about today’s worm sacrifice

They put on skin and out they go
back to the greenhouse that they know
Again inside the big steel worm they grimace in much pain
Another baffling day does start
These clueless people know no art
And so I journeyed home and left behind this world insane

White Satin Sonnet…

16 November 2011

And living in a dream with her I lie
In thought and deed bereft of all control
No toil or tiring reason could defy
A dream that steals sweet sleep but feeds the soul
White satin sheets that ripple in moonlight
Have staved a loneliness that we might know
And through our gentle ravages this night
The dam explodes and warm white rivers flow
As surging pulse and pitch softly subside
She clothes my body with her tenderness
And whispers sweetly as her fingers slide
Compelled to rise once more I acquiesce
And so again we lie as day draws near
For when sun dawns this dream will disappear

Red Silk Sonnet…

1 November 2011

Afloat upon a sea of silken red
She lies becalmed after the opening storm
Her skin unsheathed too soft for hands to tread
My trembling touch would rend her radiant form
A cool air that conceals her rampant heat
Falls on her body like the morning haze
And innocence that knows of no conceit
Does shame all self and almost mends my ways
My love and lover’s beauty sings to me
In melodies to match the Sirens’ choir
No finer temptress could there ever be
I cannot stay away nor stay desire
So all control falls crumbling into dust
I spoil her in so sating wanton lust

I the Stalker…

31 October 2011

I the stalker followed by the darkest blackest light
Together rearing forward in the shining starless night
Surface shadows deeply set in blackgrounds call to me
Your ever present presence stops the stalker stalking free

The Evening Bus…

30 October 2011

I love the evening bus
Not the night bus. Not the day bus
Not the bus before the sunset
Not the bus when there’s still light

I love the evening bus
For a snooze that feels just right

The Garden Ghosts…

28 October 2011

They stare
these traders and these market men
behind their barrows and baskets and sacks

Each gaze
upon a stranger to their world
brings silence to this place where flowers grow no more

Stillness
and the barter is forgotten
as time is lost and place remembered

Now ghosts
with cowled heads and darkened habits
behind their garden wall of goods

They stand
like statues in memoriam
of hallowed men who used to walk upon these grounds

And grew
the things these market men now sell
upon the land that peaceful men sought peace

Left Unspoken…

24 October 2011

With you I lie
For truth it brings no comfort

So both we lie
Denying what we know

We live that lie
There will be no tomorrow

We share the lie
Instead of my truth for you

For we both know
How I feel
What I want
What I would do
What I would say
If you would only utter Yes

But in truth there is only No

To save us from the mess
To save me from my pain
To save what we have built

There is only No

It lies with us

You are…

12 October 2011

You are the breath upon cold glass
The mist that clouds a stoic mind
You are a longing unsurpassed
An earthly rapture too unkind

You are a Queen Philosopher
A Form from which delight depends
You are my love, life’s saboteur
I want us to be more than friends

The Sodden Earth…

13 September 2011

Darkened heavens fall never ceasing
Ill met drops drowning the land
The field of dreaming crops halts breathing
Its harvest vapours to night’s hand

Soulless windows burst in pane
Floods pour down stone weathered faces
Sweeping away hope’s moraine
Salt waters erode rock found bases

The rain soaked soil becomes a reaper
A drain of strength I cannot face
Already weary sinking deeper
Softly welcomed in mired embrace

This sodden earth asphyxiated
Heralds the call from an echoless part
My resting place most abominated
An airless tomb for a stillborn heart
